The Hawks provided their fan base with just that...a 2-1 league victory. Rookie pitcher Kevin Williams(W,1-0) pitched the full seven innings, striking out eight and allowing just two singles. He got off to a rocky start, walking four and hitting one batter to allow his only earned run the first inning. In the second, he hit another and walked another. But from there on, Williams and his battery mate, Matt Davenport, made things look easy. The Hawks tied the game as another Hawks rookie and leadoff hitter, Joe Bozsoki, started the team’s half of the first with a single to short center. After advancing into scoring position on a wild pitch, ”Bozso” came around to score on a Davenport single to left. Bozso finished with two hits in his Hawks debut, while Davenport had three hits in his three plate appearances. The Hawks scored the winning run in the third inning with a small two out rally. Davenport doubled. Doug Harper hit a single back up the middle. As Davenport scored, Harper was thrown out at second trying to stretch the single. The defense was solid. First baseman Sean Schloss made a nice catch against the fence in the foul territory along the first base line; dug out a low throw from the third baseman. Williams combined with third baseman Nate Mainer to pick off a runner. Davenport threw out a runner trying to steal third. This game was the first game in the newly formed R-47 League. This game marked the first game played in the division. The team continues the Aut09/10Spr League next Sunday, with a game in Chofu City vs Zurich Direct. Game time is 9am. Game Notes: Hawks have won three of four season openers, with 2009 being a tie...This was the first Hawks night game since Oct 5, 2008; first night victory since July 27, 2007, a span of 4 losses and a tie.
